Saint Vincent Hospital Named Among Best Regional Hospitals in Massachusetts

Jul 23, 2024

“High Performing” ratings in heart failure, kidney failure, stroke, hip replacement, knee replacement, COPD and Pneumonia

Worcester, Mass. — U.S. News & World Report recognizes Saint Vincent Hospital as a “Best Hospital” for 2024-25. Saint Vincent Hospital ranked No. 11 in Best Regional Hospitals category out of 107 hospitals in Massachusetts and No. 2 in Worcester among U.S. News’ 2024-25 edition of Best Hospitals.

Saint Vincent earns “High Performing” ratings for its exceptional care of patients with heart failure, kidney failure, stroke, hip replacement, knee replacement, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pneumonia. “High Performing” is the highest rating U.S. News awards for treatment of common adult procedures and conditions. The seven “High Performing” distinctions recognize care that is significantly better than the national average, as measured by factors such as staffing, transparency and patient outcomes.

“We are proud that our hospital ranked in the top hospitals regionally by U.S. News & World Report and have so many of our services recognized for high performance,” says Saint Vincent Hospital Chief Executive Officer Carolyn Jackson. “Our recognition would not be achieved if not for the dedication and commitment made each and every day by our physicians, nurses and staff to providing exceptional and compassionate care to our patients.”

U.S. News evaluated nearly 5,000 hospitals across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions; only 11% of evaluated hospitals earned a Best Hospitals ranking. Hospitals awarded a “Best” designation excelled at factors such as clinical outcomes, level of nursing care and patient experience.

The annual Best Hospitals rankings and ratings, now in its 35th year, are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or for common elective procedures.

To calculate the Best Hospitals rankings, U.S. News evaluated each hospital’s performance on objective measures such as risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications and level of nursing care. The Best Hospitals Specialty rankings methodology and Procedures & Conditions ratings methodology measure patient outcomes using data from millions of records provided by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. This year, among other methodology refinements, U.S. News incorporated new data on care provided to patients with Medicare Advantage insurance and on care provided to outpatients, nearly doubling the number of patients included in its annual data analysis. The Procedures & Conditions ratings are based entirely on objective quality measures.
