Saint Vincent Hospital offering walk-in mammography screenings in May

May 13, 2024

WORCESTER, Mass. — For the month of May, the Saint Vincent Hospital Breast Center is offering walk-in mammogram screenings to the public.

Dr. Neha Modi said screenings are recommended once a year for women 40 years and older. She said these screening are meant to check breasts regularly before signs or symptoms of cancer develop.

According to the CDC, about 1 in 8 women in America will develop breast cancer.

"Most of these women who develop breast cancer do not have a family history of breast cancer. In fact, three out of four women who have breast cancer do not have a family history of breast cancer,” she said. “A patient comes in with a lump or anything, that is not a screening. A screen is detecting way early. Basically, what we see with today's imaging technology we are finding abnormalities early and we are giving women better health and peace of mind."

Women must be 40 years or older, and have health insurance and a primary care physician or OBGYN to receive the walk-in screenings. Patients are asked to bring with them a copy of any previous mammogram image if done at another facility. Walk-ins are welcome Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Saint Vincent Wellness Center.
